The saviour from on high,
Descended to the earth,
To free man from his sigh.
Yet when the saviour came,
Man had drowned in his sins,
That he preferred the shame.
So the God-man he killed,
Hanging him on a tree,
As God himself had willed.
Dear God we plead, mercy!
On all mankind on earth,
Your mercy alone saves.
Many sins we bring you,
Heal us of our filth,
And embrace us yours.
Father, turn thy kind eye,
Through thy son Jesus Christ,
And heal us of our filth.
