Heart Fool Poem by Harlan Simantel

Heart Fool

Rating: 5.0

mistakes of the heart
replayed by the mind
an unrelenting dart
irritating burr in the soul
reminds me when i was a fool

didn't know it at the time
i passed her by
'another, better, will come along'
i casually thought
unrealizing i did myself wrong
more than her

years have passed
but memory is fresh
remorse the faithful agent
mistakes of the heart
daily re-sent

God hands us gifts
but if we do not accept
He can do nothing else
but with us sorrow
on a later, regretful morrow.
