Heart-Song Poem by Emma Atkinson

Heart-Song

Rating: 5.0

My mind is a melody,
Sweet dulcet notes,
And in a rhapsody floats
My heart.
The beatings in my chest
Are of the unsteady drum.
My fingers rap a frenzied beat
As I wait for you to come.
I feel my throat tighten with nervous anticipation,
Only to let my tell-tale heart thump with unbidden elation.
And my mind, my foolish mind,
It strays to the well-known refrain,
And though I've tried so hard not to,
I think of you again.
