How I Would Hate You Poem by Emma Atkinson

How I Would Hate You

Rating: 5.0

If hate was a passion deeper than the blood of roses,
Fiercer than fire,
Stronger than the iron that forges
A cage around my heart,
That is how I would hate you.

If hate was a pain more profound than the ocean,
A scar running deep as a crack in the earth,
Burning red as sunset, that gave birth
To vulnerable dawn,
That is how I would hate you.

If hate was a sadness grayer than the pall of death,
The sound of a bird's lament echoing through a forsaken moor,
A cry so pure,
It robs me of breath,
That is how I would hate you.

If hate was a love so broken it cracks and splinters like ice,
Bloodied crystals forming on a shattered soul,
So that I stand frostbitten and alone,
Not knowing if the burning is form the heat or cold,
That is how I would hate you.

And this, this is how I hate you:
I hate you as I loved you- forever, for as long as stars are set in the sky,
So in love was I,
And now my love is hate, and hate is love.
it is everything- all of the above.
That, that, is how I would hate you.
