Heart Vs. Brain Poem by Tina Baaklini

Heart Vs. Brain

Once upon a time
My heart and brain were foes.
My heart wanted to rule:
'I take the reign.'

My brain, almost insane, screamed:
'Again? Do not come in tears and complain.
Be wise, for once let me be in charge.'

But my foolish heart always came up
With an argument to take the lead.

And time after time
My heart ended in tears.

So I, the arbitrator, intervened:
'Dear heart, I think it's time to retire.
Keep beating and bumping,
In your four chambers keep living.
But as the captain of our boat,
The brain I now promote.'

And thus, since then,
Peace in my world reigned.
