Hello Kisses Poem by Beth Bailey

Hello Kisses

'Those are hello kisses, not goodbye kisses.'

Maybe, so. But we only have a stolen moment to express both.
How can you give a lifetime of love within the span of a few dear minutes?

You can't.

But, you can relish the warmth of his body against yours
as he holds you tighter than you've ever been held.
Take in the aroma of his neck as you kiss it all the way up
to his softly bearded jaw.

'I'll remember this moment the rest of my life', he says while holding my hand.

For one brief moment in time, everything was right,
was as love intended.
But, love only has intentions, and selfish ones at that.
Love doesn't take into consideration time, distance,
or promises made to others.

Love can be cruel this way.
Forcing itself upon your heart & mind with no sense of propriety,
no regard for the future or past.
Love wants what it wants when it wants it.
And we are all too willing to pacify it.
