Helping An Angel Poem by Ian McArthur

Helping An Angel

(See? They're not all negative. They're other ones as well that I haven't posted because they're more like word experiments than actual poems. Inspired by a painting in my old school.) [About the kelp: some people in Ireland bring up seaweed from the shore and lay it in gardens for the soil. My neighbours have done this even as I write this, so its not a dead tradition]

An Angel came my way today
She asked me why the land was grey
Though before I had not seen
It was true,
this land was mean.

I did not know what to say
to one of whom does carry pray
but as it was she carried kelp
and looked like she would like some help
like this we walked for many days
always taking different ways
always helping with seaweed
always doing the good deed
Laughing as we worked and played
Worked this land, and it we made
Ireland, in forty shades of green
For every eye, this lovely scene
And though she had to fly away
from heart to heart, she did say:

When you work and when you play
and when your lost, can't find your day
laugh in fun, with me pray
I'll be with you, all the way.
