When my life swept over me,
Like a wave heading to shore,
I knew I had all I needed,
I needed nothing more,
I awoke every morning,
Putting one foot in front of the other,
And I did as I was taught,
Learning all of it from my mother,
There were days when inside my head,
I was so high up in the clouds,
Times when I felt like a failure,
There were times when I felt proud,
I found my way to happiness,
Or so I told myself,
I made it through the times of haze,
Putting my heart upon a shelf,
But living that way,
Is not really who I am,
I had to search and find myself,
And finally make a stand,
Love is the most important thing,
For a child to grow up with,
It was her abundance of love,
That helped to guide my ship,
My mother was the anchor,
That kept us safe at shore,
Her love for her children,
Made us love her more,
My Mom has left the planet,
And gone to a better place,
Yet all the things she gave us,
Have become our saving grace.
