Her Arrival! Poem by Chhavi Anupam

Her Arrival!

There she is
the supreme beauty
my Iris
my cutie,

Who, just a few days
back has arrived
with soothing sun's rays
has mesmerised,

Me...her grand-father
with her exquisite
smile, rather
with her charm composite.

Softly
with her lilltle fingers
she holds
my index finger,

And gurgles
twinkles,
gestures
then blinks,

And then fixes
her gaze
at me,
I become breathless,

As if
kindling
centuries old bond
...she is entangling

As if
I was advancing
in age
just waiting,

To salute
this bundle
of absolute
incredible joy!

My own son
my own daughter
have never evoked
such tender feelings,

As has done
my grand-daughter
with her
stately arrival, .

As if on us
she has
showered pollen
showered silver,

Intricate tax laws
complex calculations
commentaries
case-laws,

All zoom out
of my consciousness
while
I am conscious,

Only
of the fact
that if I clap
or if I sing,

My
grand-daughter
will look at me
satiated,

As if
cheering
an old chum
..endearing,

I do not
mind my
advancing years
anymore,

Promise me,
she'll walk
tall by my side,
and me, she'll correct,

In logic and intellect
in poise and profile
in all areas select
including fashion and style,

And then my friend
I can peacefully
slide out
of this world,

But for the moment
please do not disturb
as I am clapping
for my grand-daughter!
