Her Majesty - 1926 - 2022 Poem by Deanna Samuels

Her Majesty - 1926 - 2022

When making Canada my new home
there felt a loss that was my own.
Leaving England after nearly 60 years
the change of country oft brought me to tears.
Journeys back and forth brought some relief,
settled down in new homestead with a little grief.

Solace and reassurance though, were had most days
when buying goods with cash and on handing over to pay,
there she was, on all the coins and notes
keeping me company in pocket, purse and tote.
Yes, she was with me, Her Majesty, the Queen,
bringing back those memories of English scene.

Recalled the magic of The Coronation on a 12" B&W TV
and cheering with the school on her post-local oversee.
Waving to her entourage on the A3 road from Epsom Downs
after her day at The Derby and other races of renown.
Followed Her Majesty's life in all her joys and woes,
knowing how she feels when we, too, have highs and lows

Her Majesty, The Queen never left my admiration.
A wonderful woman who kept her promise to the nation.
Now well established in my Canadian life and way
with bonus too, sharing same National Anthem as UK
stood with pride to sing ‘God Save The Queen'.
Elizabeth II fulfilled her duty, blessed was her reign.
