Hero Poem by Harry Paulus

Hero

As I look to the sky
Tears start brimming in my eyes
Thinking of the past
Thinking of what I've done.

The decisions that I've made
Brought me to this path
The path I walk is long
When I walk alone

Pain is tearing at me
With eyes like sharpened daggers
They look right through me
As if I don't exist

As the moon shines brilliantly
I receive a call
Stating that I'm going to war

I go to fight
For all I hold close
To make sure they remain safe
To make sure that no one harms them

As I think of my friends
A bullet goes through me
I begin to fall
Coughing up blood

Here at the end
As Death embraces me
I hear my love's voice
saying 'Please come home my hero.'
