Hero Dad Poem by Fanche Rhodesse

Hero Dad

I can't hold my tears.
I can't take this pain.
My hero dad is gone.
At five years old, you took me to school.
To make sure I had a proper education.
At University, it was so hard for you.
But you struggled and saw me through.
Your motivation, guidance and support
transformed me into the woman I am today.
How can I hold these tears?
How can I take this pain?
My hero dad is gone.
You stood by me in all my struggles.
Consoling me when I was in labour and
waking up all night to cuddle the baby.
Oh, how can I forget these moments?
My hero dad is no more.
Your smile brought sunshine to my life.
Your advice gave me the strength to move on.
If my tears could you bring you back daddy,
I will cry a river to see you again.
No dad, no dad, no.
Why did you leave without saying goodbye?
I was coming home for you, daddy.
To tell you how much I've missed you.
But you had to leave without saying goodbye.
I can't hold my tears.
I can't take this pain.
My hero dad is gone forever.
