Hey Ram Poem by Rajeev Kunapra

Hey Ram

Hey Ram! The poignant cry
That eclipsed the joy of freedom,
Echoes still in the minds of millions!

A fragile frame- behind the spinning wheel
Weaving love and harmony,
Is not just a frame that hangs on the walls,
But an icon that imbues the Indian plebs!

Lots are there from him to borrow
All are to wipe out commoners' sorrow!
Clad in his loincloth, traveled he far and wide,
Wore he nothing that his people can't afford!

Weaponed with love, he ousted the imperials.
Dwelled in suburbs, he nurtured rustic lives.
Bygone days are gone forever!
Hides he now behind the horizon!

Sobs he- deep in debt farmers succumb
Bleeds his soul- a fatigued plough man
Treads a mile shouldering his beloved
Shadowed by his lad with not a shoulder to cry on!

Without Gandhi, incomplete our history,
What is to boast of - save for his legacy?
In vain your efforts are- for phonies
The bespectacled is inimitable!

Wannabes! Shrug off your follies
And follow his path
Elevate you to his heights
And then equate yourself with him!

Propagate his ideas and propel the nation.
Remedy all our maladies and then look back,
See you the smiling saint, chanting ‘Hey Ram'.
