Hidden Horrors Poem by Samantha McKinnon

Hidden Horrors

I know completely helplessly
that I pulled us apart
My life holds a lot of hidden horrors
that complicate everything.
I'm practically a blur
of problems
acting like they don't exist
while getting worse and worse.
I let myself love you
and it was downhill from there.
A lack of loyalty
left me destroyed.
I desperately looked for a logical explanation.
I thought there was no way- -
After all I had done for you - -
That you'd be able to do that.
But
With a few well-chosen words
You cleared that up.
I knew you didn't care.
I would have begged you not to leave me
But I knew
If I were you
I, too, would escape
From me
While you had the chance.
