Highway's Of Life Poem by Robert Stewart

Highway's Of Life

HIGHWAYS OF LIFE

As we come into this world we have no way of knowing,
Just where we are headed and where we are going.
It's like that path through the woods we've all walked down,
Surprised by the scenery, the smell and the sounds.
Then our minds start to develop, we understand more.
Walking and talking and growing for sure.
It's now a dirt road that we're traveling on,
The road a bit wider since we were born.
Our youth is filled with learning each day,
Until we graduate from school and sent on our way.
It's now a two way highway we're traveling on,
At a much faster pace, and we know where we're going.
With a family, a home and bills to pay,
Problems are plenty as we go on our way,
The speed of our highway is now in full gear,
A four lane expressway with plenty to fear.
Our live's are so busy, we have no time to rest.
And the highway we're on, sure puts us to the test.
Now the kids are grown, it's just you and me,
A bit slower pace and quiet as can be.
It's back to a two lane, it will work for us,
Less problems and bills and not in a big rush.
That retirement comes that we've been looking for,
Enjoying every day, that's for sure.
That dirt road will work, we're in no big hurry,
We have no schedule to keep, so we're not going to worry.
Then our health turns bad, and we have no way of knowing,
Just where we are headed and where we are going.
It's like that path through the woods we've all walked down,
Surprised by the scenery, the smell and the sounds.
