His Cross Was Mine Poem by Michael P. Johnson

His Cross Was Mine

Rating: 5.0

History speaks of Jesus Christ
But who of us can see?
How God on earth was sacrificed?
To set the captive free?

I found a bible on a shelf
I read it through and through
It’s then I looked inside myself
And saw what I must do

I saw my shame I saw The Tree
I heard The Quiet Voice
I know He came to set me free
And so I made my choice

I chose of self, to die; that day
To change my wayward path
To walk instead God’s righteous way
And thus escape His wrath

For clear the cross was meant for me!
For much, I was to blame
And thus my end would surely be
In hell’s eternal flame

Instead life’s fight for me was won!
Through Christ! I’m free of sin
Though earning death, for all I’d done
No grave my soul will win

So though the devil’s fate was mine
Like countless gone before
The Lord drank free my cup of wine
And opened Heaven’s door

Of course He’d seen my life’s disgrace
He saw Barabbas’ too
Yet still; He came to take our place
And give us life anew…
