The waking bell sounded
As morning upended
And drove away fleeting
Remainders of night;
While deep under covers
A feeble appendage
Found semblance of life and
Crawled into the light,
Arresting the pow'r of
Alarming attackers
That wielded said terror
Against peaceful dreams,
Retreating again to
A warm nest of limbs wrapped
In feathers and visions
Of happier themes
