Deep peaceful breaths ebb like the ocean
I'm holding his hand
I look at a tranquil face, lost in dream
A tiny crystal in the corner of his eye shines from the artificial light that pours from my window as it runs down to meet his cheek before it finally meets his pillow
I'm holding his hand
With my other, I wipe the track as if I am softly wiping away the years of pain and suffering he's been through; as if my sole purpose in this life that we share together is to shade him from the heat of all the hatred in this world because he's seen it all and so have I, and we deserve a better view
I'm holding his hand
I bask in the warmth that our bellies have created; a connection between two souls that were destined to be together
I'm holding his hand
His body begins to rotate away
I'm griping his hand
The warmth begins to fade
I'm clasping his hand
He greets the ceiling; the tension becomes stronger
I'm clenching his hand
Like my life depends on it
Like letting go means falling apart
Like letting go means flying away
Because he could
Because the love that I give does not compare to the beauty of the others
I'm holding on to the last man
Praying that he won't let go
His finger drifts away like a leaf in autumn
the feeling of free falling
I'm left in the cold
I close my eyes and fall
I feel the heat and pressure on my shoulders
I feel warmth fill my body and soul
Dripping like drops of rain into my stomach
like an ocean it's wave sends ripples throughout my body until it reaches my toes and is released into my room
I open my eyes
I smile
I'm holding him
We're Safe
