Holy Baptism Poem by Dr John Celes

Holy Baptism

The water bathes the body but
The Holy Spirit works within,
When words divine uttered makes one
A member of Lord Jesus Christ!

The grace of God brings marked change;
Past sins and punishments are gone;
The sacrament called Baptism
Brings us to Christ and is the first!

‘Unless a man is born again,
Of water and of Holy Ghost,
He cannot enter God’s Kingdom! ’
Said Jesus Lord to Apostles.

The rite is simple; so, the words;
The cleansing is of soul, mind, heart;
The grace of God gets poured within,
As one is freed from every sin.

I don't think it's the 'sacrament called Baptism' that really saves a person... if baptism is necessary how was the thief that was crucified with Jesus saved? (see Luke 23: 39-43) . In the quote you give (perhaps John 3: 5?) , water refers to the first birth from the womb, and the Holy Ghost is the spiritual rebirth. To say that baptism 'Brings us to Christ' is simply erroneous. Water baptism is but a ceremony (don't get me wrong it's important; I'm baptized) . Please send me a message if you disagree with me.
