Homelessness Poem by Gregory (gshaw57) Upshaw

Homelessness

Imagine yourself cold; hungry-emotionally drain
Wondering how your child would be fed
Think about that moment
When that hunger grabs you from within
Your insides tormented with pain
Can you imagine how that must feel
Then envision the homeless
A tragedy within a tragedy
Our society's shame—

One moment living within the establishment
With integrity of cultural beliefs
Then suddenly without warning it ruptures
The bare fiber of reality, within the myth-torn apart—

This is the plight of the homeless
One moment living within the boundaries of society
The next as castaways-forgotten by the society who cherish us
For there is no judge, no jury—no judgment
Just a proclamation of our sins
Sins that can affect any of us
At any given time
Whether true or not
Society has announce our sins—

That reality is what it is—hopelessness
That hopelessness that leads to absolute detachment
Detachment from society, from cultural beliefs, from humanity
For this is the plight of the homeless
Our society’s shame—
