Hope Is My Anchor Poem by Samantha Wallace

Hope Is My Anchor

It keeps me sane and calm,
I use it to keep me grounded,
And draw strength from all the Psalms.
My hope is based on God's love for me,
Which is rooted at the cross,
It tells me that Christ died for me,
So I can bravely face any loss.
For when my life falls apart,
Or the bottom just falls out,
I know I can still take heart,
And lay down all my doubts.
And even though it makes no sense,
I can choose to trust Him still.
For when I lay down all offense,
I know I'm walking in His will.
I've learnt that nothing ever happens in life,
That is out of God's control.
And even though it feels like strife,
It's all designed to make us whole.
So as I look to the Cross, I can rest assured,
That no matter what I'm forced to face,
God's love for me is still secure,
And can draw comfort from His Grace.
My hope too lies in the truth,
That His goals are not like mine.
I've strived for happiness since my youth,
Whereas His is for my Holiness to shine.
I've been seeking out more comfort,
But He cares more for my attitude.
He lovingly wishes me not to quit,
As He coaches me in gratitude.
My character is His striving aim,
To perfect it to the end,
So He really shouldn't get the blame,
When hard times we must contend.
I know I can secure my anchor,
To calm all stormy seas.
For my faith will grow much deeper,
When I draw comfort on my knees.
