Hopes Wake Poem by NikMorgan ...

Hopes Wake

The children of detention
Were kept back
Teachers pet hates
They just couldn’t understand
So they played at being fools
Taking the blame
They got more than their share
Leaving school with nothing
Except sighs of relief
Caught by the fast money of corporate food
Minimum effort minimum wage
Flipping burgers flippin bored
Fake smiles fade with time
Lost in the world of statistics
Narcotic excursions to escape the mundane
Petty crime financing petty lives
Like stale smells they linger
Hanging around
They’ve no to go
And no one to be
Resembling corpses in formaldehyde
There is no hope in their cold dead eyes
