Hot Outside, Inside Too Poem by BASAB CHAUDHURI

Hot Outside, Inside Too

A hot humid day -
hardly any man on the street
occasionally a bus spewing warm smoke
adding to the already-prevailing heat.
Every man moves towards a goal
of sustainable development -
poverty, yes - but it must be tolerable,
equality, yes - but it must be defined,
equity, yes - but it must be evolving,
water, yes - but constraints not to be forgotten,
forest, yes - but it must make space for cars,
rights, yes - but not without the rider of responsibility,
women, yes - but within the cultural boundary,
the sun, yes - but oil and gas are still primary,
All yes - but there must be a distinction
between the primary and the secondary,
yes, it is; no, it isn't and in between-
a hazy yes slowly moves into the zone of fuzzy no.
What matters is - it is very hot outside, inside too.
