Hourglass Poem by Brenda Tamayo

Hourglass

Even the finest of roses must wither away
Petal by petal not a single one remains
Even people turn old and grey
Not a dropp of blood stays in their veins
Even the morphine that keeps patients sane
Will soon wear off and leave them in pain
Even the hearts beating in the wild
Will soon slow down and become mild
Even the mountains lain in plain view
Will scatter and waste into the ground askew
And how I wished that father time knew
That if he could break his hourglass in two
I’d die the happiest girl because I’d spend eternity with you
