House Sparrows Serve Some Purpose Poem by Francis Duggan

House Sparrows Serve Some Purpose

They chirp all year round to nightfall from daybreak
The voices of the house sparrows one should never mistake
They are born to chirp till the day that they die
And they too serve some purpose just like you and i,
Some people they look upon them as a pest
A straggly ball of hay lined with small feathers serves them for a nest,
On shed rafters or under house eaves or in bush or small tree
Around human dwellings birds one often does see
But they too serve some purpose despite what some do say
For all forms of life in Nature do have some part to play
Some people do not like them yet they trust human kind
And near where people live them you always will find
Not born to be singers they do not have a song
And they chirp in the garden in days short and long.
