How are you?

When I ask you that,
I don't want you to give me the usual response 'FINE'

When I ask you the question
'How are you? '

I want you to tell me
What is really bothering you
I want to know about the one that makes you
Happy
I want to hear you rant about that co-worker
Stressing you
I want to know about that stalker
Tell me about the storms you hide behind those smiles

Your wins?
Your losses?
Your bargains?
All that made you happy?
And sad?

I want to know them all

I want to know if you are truly 'FINE'
or you are just hiding behind that
Casual word to make yourself look
Put together and well
I want to know what is going on with you.

So... When I ask 'How are you? '
I don't want you to activate a
Defense mechanism
I want to be a bridge to break
Your border

Don't worry, you can let it all out,
I won't complain, I wouldn't judge
You,
If you're worried about dragging me into
Your problems,
No need to hesitate further
I have carried your silence
Even before the night learned to turn dark
Long before you know how
To explain how you feel.

I won't complain about how long the
Conversation might take
I will only complain when you try
To hide how you actually feel
