How Can You Feel Nostalgic Poem by Francis Duggan

How Can You Feel Nostalgic

How can you feel nostalgic when you can visualize
When the familiar faces are in your inner eyes
As you walk in the Hometown your friends again you meet
And you feel very much at home on a familiar street.

The river you were raised near it goes on babbling down
On towards the flatter Countryside along by the old Town
It seems as if you've never left and time it has stood still
And you hear the song-birds singing in the high wood by the hill.

How can you feel nostalgic when in your inner eyes you see
In Spring pink blossoms blooming on the crab apple tree
And hear the baby moorhens cheep in the dark river pool
You heard them many years ago on your way home from school.

Though time it does not wait for you and your biological clock is ticking fast
How can you feel nostalgic when you can visit your past
Again you are in your Hometown the people there you know
And everybody waves to you and to you say hello.
