How Could She Be So Strong? Poem by JoAnn McGrath

How Could She Be So Strong?

- How Could She Be So Strong?

They came...
...All ages, shapes, sizes, colors, creed.
From the youngest in a mother's arms,
to a crippled old man that could barely stand
let alone walk.

She welcomed then all with open arms
and a smile.
Knew almost everyone by name,
and told a brief story with each.

- How could she be so strong?

Already a loss of her four year old daughter.
Years and one month before, to this date,
of his passing.
Weighing heavy on her mind.
And the same daughter, who's birthday
is three days after his passing.
The only consolation to it all,
she now will be back in daddy's arm
forever.

- How could she be so strong?

As tears and laughter
meld into one big blurry fish bowl,
and I sit numb to my surroundings
thinking...
- How could she be so strong?
