How Did This Happen. Poem by Steven Harris

How Did This Happen.

Now how did this happen
how did this all happen
drinking that much of a night, i wont be doing that again
waking in up in a room, on a street i don't know
next to girls i've never met
one shoe on, the other near the door at the back, t-shirt and trousers on the floor
where am i
who are these poeple.

Getting up
going into the bathroom
looking in the mirror to find a bruised eye and red lipstick on my face
no memory of what happend
drinking that much doesn't help
my head feels fine though
hair of the dog and i'll go
half of bottle of whiskey still on the floor
drink it up and i'll go.

One of the girls wakes up
pretty girl, yet she obviously has no memory of what happend herself
she looks up at me, blonde hair and blue eyes look through me
she smiles and her head hits the pillow again
i put my clothes back on, drink half of the whiskey and run
getting out of that room
i remember where i am now
the hotel i'm staying in, on the floor below mine
i remember now
get in the lift, best get to my room quick.

Getting into my room to find the same scene as i woke up in
all my friends asleep on all the furniture
girls i've never seen before
beds, chairs, there's even someone in the bathroom
bodies everywhere spread out across the floor
clothes, bottles, empty cigarette packets everywhere
what kind of hotel allows this kind of disastrous party
what people would allow all of us to hammer these rooms
whatever they think it still happend
what a night it must have been.
