How Does It Feel? Poem by David Blake

How Does It Feel?

Lying alone naked in bed, I imagined you
standing there along the road in the rain
smiling at me the first time we met. Drifting
alone in the sea that drives the dreams and
fuels the loves and memories of life, I find
no joy in loving a dream that has no name.
For a moment I loved you, tasted the salt on
your lips and dreamed that somehow this
moment would never end. Shadowy figures
so many have I loved, your ghost only one
among the many of whom I had professed
my unending love. Tangled up in the foolish
things that always seem to be, I knew that
nothing I could ever say would bring you back
to me. So you shall remain the girl lost in the
rain who had no name.
