How Precious Human Lives Get Lost! Poem by Dr John Celes

How Precious Human Lives Get Lost!

The priceless life that we got free
By love of Maker, do we see?
And yet, we take undue risks to
Achieve the silly things we do!

The life God-given is a gift
Of value more than all earth’s wealth,
And yet we sail life’s ship adrift,
In seas perilous, sans good health.

Even when baby lies in womb,
The mother takes risks of all kinds;
The feeding bottle turns its tomb,
Or kerosene, if infant finds!

And lives are lost in school-buses,
Not maintained well and brakes not good;
And mobiles turn mother’s curses,
Or caned by teacher, child is dead!

The youngster riding bike in lanes,
Helmetless, dies, pierced by sharp panes;
Or travelling on bus foot-boards,
He slips to death sans any words!

When flying by aero-planes cause
An accident, no can gets saved;
All that remains is half-burnt flesh,
And scattered bones, pieces of cloth!

And women pushed out of a train,
By rogues who molest her at will,
Can hardly live in slush and rain,
Or hit by boulders, falling ill!

And murdered are the couples old,
For sake of cash or paltry gold;
Or youth commits a suicide,
For failed love or someone did chide!

And girls are burnt alive at times,
For spurning love advanced by boys;
Or done to death in heinous crimes,
Or dismembered like broken toys!

More lives are lost by accidents,
Or frenzied acts of men insane;
All kinds of gruesome precedents
Are there for homicides for gain!

Some take great risks to perform feats
That may give fame and name, may be!
A few depressed by some defeats,
Take drugs that cause insanity!

Why risk your precious life God gave?
Life’s-Giver only rightly takes;
And Nature’s furies digs mass grave,
By tsunamis, landslides or quakes!

Nothing can compensate life lost;
No ransom can repay its cost!
