Hungry For Change Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Hungry For Change

The little Austrian corporal who carried messages
in the Great War convinced a nation that change
was essential and he would guarantee that

change that would endure for a thousand years
so the veterans and the burgomeisters lined
up to welcome the national socialist thugs

The concentration camps sprang up as quiet
as tulips in spring to welcome outcasts
and other state criminals to extermination

in the ovens designed for the final solution
of pestiferous groups like fags and jews
and slavs - smoke up the chimneys!
