Hybris. Poem by Marcondes Pereira

Hybris.

Nature gives everything to us, food, water and liberty.
We try to rule her, cause we believe that science
Will guide us to a world free of intolerance.
We destroy nature due to our vanity.

We don't think about old age and death anymore.
We live in several societies that adore
Money, technology, career, professional pride.
We worship consumerism and we don't hide
That we obey and believe
In a foolish life,
In a selfish strife,
Goals, certificates, cars and houses,
Modern paradises
Bought by money and fame
We love fault of shame.
For richness we die, for richness we live.
