I Am A Devotee Of The Eternal Beauty Poem by Mohabeer Beeharry

I Am A Devotee Of The Eternal Beauty

And yet I know not what beauty is.
I sing of sunrise
And sunset
And I thrill to their beauty.

I sing of the hills
And the mountains, bathed in morning sunshine
Scintillating pearls of dewdrops
And of the sparkling brooks.

On the next day the beauty is gone.
The sunrise has dulled
And the sunset is etched with unwanted streaks of discordant colours.

The blooms have faded
The hills are desolate and tearful.
I ask myself if beauty were so frail,
Ephemeral!
There is no answer.

Here everything is caught into an unravellable coil of slow end.
I wonder if that is all there is to it,
A fake existence!
My heart aches!

Where is then the truth?
I dream of the place where beauty is immortal,
Beyond the reach of my poor and groping mind.

Of one thing I know,
A secret of the deepest recess of my heart,
From where sweetest and unremitting echoes arise,

That says
Only the Creator is beautiful and eternal
He made the Soul beautiful and eternal
And He made a beautiful world to remind us
Of His eternal beauty.
