I Am A Proud Nigerian Poem by Ama Alma Okigbo

I Am A Proud Nigerian

I am a proud Nigerian
I stand on the mountain top
I shout as birds leave the horizon
I stand with my people and defend my country
For I say to you, and I say again
I am a proud Nigerian

I am a proud Nigerian
When insults come my way
When people soil our country's name
I stand on firm ground and defend her glory
For I say to you, and I say again
I am a proud Nigerian

I am a proud Nigerian
I know Nigerian is a blessed country
I know that someday Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba, and all their siblings will stand and live as one
I know that someday all Nigerians would dance under one sky
For I say to you, and I say again
I am a proud Nigerian

I am a proud Nigerian
When I stand and recite the national anthem
Making an oath to our dear country when I remember the old days of war and suffering
I tell you only that makes memories and history of a bitter past never to see
So I remain patriotic to my dear country
For I say to you, and I say again
I am a proud Nigerian
