I Am For You Poem by VICTOR ESTRADA

I Am For You

Every now and then
You hammer my brain.
You ask for my identity;
And swear to follow me
To the edge of eternity;

You are young
And steeped in raw promises;
I hide myself in my cote
And make unbelievable excuses.

You stand like a minaret
I, a grain of slippery sand;
I place you in my heart
Sans a foe, sans a friend;

My heart has mellowed
And yours’ is at its prime;
Only a chapter is left for me
As I turn the pages of time.

May be, for me
Tomorrow’s Sun does not rise.
Promise, in the next birth
You will be my prize
