I Am Not A Broken Soul Poem by Mohammad Younus

I Am Not A Broken Soul

I am not a broken soul
Rattling in sin,
For I surely have God, my Guardian.
He throws me into the ocean of love,
Tells me the story of creation,
Whispers secret words:
'Just be honest in your love.'

So I find the waves of love
Splashing against the shores,
Creating a melody of love.
And I think of the profound love
That made God cast His spirit
Into the vessel of my bones and flesh—
So I have divine feelings within.

For God created life
And cheated death,
Once and forever.
My soul is at large now,
Many people do not know
The story of love,
Yet I know this story
From the writer of stories.

Therefore, I shall know it,
Never to forget anymore...
I find the musk of deer
In my soul,
Which helps me keep
The monsters at bay.
I know God as my mother—
She is still here, around me.
She is the loving mother,
Oh, my good old mother!

You are my thoughts and feelings,
I carry you in my heart,
Upon my head, as my crown,
And in my breast.
For I do not have a stepmother,
Only one mother,
And she is light upon light.
Behold, the breath of Mother.
