I Am Not Just A Shadow Poem by Mohammad Younus

I Am Not Just A Shadow

I am not just a shadow,
My essence is shadowless.
I am a pearl within a shell,
Hidden and waiting
To be broken open.

I am not a fleeting dream
In the endless night
Of an inebriated soul.
I am not the cursed Adam,
Expelled in disobedience,
Wandering through the wilderness.

Yet, when I ponder my essence,
To my surprise, I find—
I am neither the cursed Adam
Sent down to live on earth
Nor the cursed Iblis.
In truth, I am but a bubble
In your boundless ocean—
From you, I rise,
And to you, I return.
