I Am Sorry My Love Poem by David Rohlf

I Am Sorry My Love

The place where we kissed, the day that we met,
these are the memories that I will never forget.
Having our fights, I hold you on tight,
dreaming of you and willing to fight.

The faces were shown, the words have been said,
the blood drips slowly, down my unconscious head.
The promise I made to you, to come right back home,
to see you and me, grow up and grow old.

You never answered my letters, or even my calls,
angry and confused you are, when our destiny falls.
From this last poem I write to you, from wherever I may be,
I am sorry my love for I gave up everything, so that you may live free.

The way these things start, from hatred and pain,
and the only outcome is, a stone with my name.
It kills me to see you, go on all alone,
but your new man will come to you, to have and to hold.

So I am sorry my love, for I am no longer here,
to be dreaming of your kisses and wiping your tears.
The day I shipped out, you let go and you cried,
I didn't even have a chance to tell you my love, that I love you and goodbye.
