I Am Who I Am Poem by Maya Spitz

I Am Who I Am

It's my life
Have you forgotten
You are unable to control me any longer
I am tired of being someone I'm not
Am I supposed to be a petty example
Of whom you wish you could be?
I refuse to be your puppet
That can dance and humor you when you please
I refuse to be a machine
That works quickly enough to for you
I refuse to be a magician
That can grant every wish just by uttering a few words
I refuse to be perfect
I'm sorry I'm not perfect enough for you
I have a purpose and it wasn't to amuse you
Though I am unsure of what my purpose is
I do know I have satisfied myself
And that's all that matters to me
