I Bite My Tongue Poem by Trever Barlow

I Bite My Tongue

It seems like forever that we've been friends
with no secrets between us
never an awkward moment not followed by a laugh
I admire everything about her
I would do anything and everything for her
yet somewhere along the road
my admiration and friendship for her grew
until I found myself thinking of only her
longing for the next time we were together
now I see her and wish she was mine
but I know she doesn't feel the same way
she doesn't know how I have been falling for her
and she may never know
because no matter how I try
I can never tell her how I have felt for so long
how every time she hugs me
I never want to let go
and every time she smiles at me
I feel my soul warm and grow
I look into her eyes and never want to look away
but I feel as though she can see inside me
she can see all of my emotions
she can tell how I think of her
and knows that I am entranced by her ways
so I quickly look away and smile
let out a quiet chuckle
to show that theres nothing there
to show that we are just friends
afraid of what she may think of me otherwise
of how things may change
afraid of losing everything that we've had for so long
so I avert my eyes
and bite my tongue
slow my beating heart
just wishing she would tell me
that she felt the same
wishing that she loved me
hoping one day she will
lost in the thought of loving her
