I Bring You Fairytales Poem by Lulu Gee

I Bring You Fairytales

Come sit, it’s time for fairytales
From this my book of rhyme,
I’ll take you to a land of dreams
Where clocks don’t tell the time.
Where life is free of stress and strife
And stories will unfold,
Of tigers, mice and butterflies
And unicorns of olde.

Your hands outstretched will want to touch
The beauty all around -
And should you be so well inclined
There’s magic to be found,
In kingdoms each ruled by a King
With Queens sat by their side,
Where jousting Knights fight for the hands
Of maidens misty-eyed.

While dragons roam with fiery breath,
Green caterpillars sing
To wake the dormouse from her sleep
As winter turns to spring.
Then as we turn another page
A moth is drifting by,
To warn of witches within sight
On broomsticks flying high.

A fairy by the blue lagoon
As frail as maidenhair,
Will dance and sing before your eyes
Amongst the blossoms there.
And on a stem a beetle smiles
Beneath a myrtle tree,
As pixie folk in hats of silk
Sit where your eyes can’t see.

Down by the wilderness of sand
Awash with cockleshells
I'll tell you tales of pirate men
Who sail on caravels -
While mermaids with warm misty-eyes
Swim all the seven seas,
A cuckoo with a turtle dove
Will sing to honeybees.

The leprechauns are everywhere
Within the clover dell,
In velvet suits with silver braid
with flowers in each lapel.
They dwell where rainbows meet the land,
Where rain falls like a mist,
As gentle as a baby’s cheek
Caressed and softly kissed.

I see your eyes close on a sigh,
It’s time for bed, I know,
Tomorrow I shall tell you where
The Elf King had to go.
But now I’ll close my book of rhyme
Without another peep -
And let you dream a symphony
Within your hours of sleep.....Sh!
