I Can Feel The Pain Poem by Sookdeo Manansingh

I Can Feel The Pain

I can feel the pain
of the survivors left behind
from the tragedy of the boat
capsized taking with it
innocent lives
that will never return

No one could foretell that
it was their last journey
they would ever make

the river have swallowed
them all taking away the bitter
memories that will forever
remain with those whom are left

The nation sits mourning
for the grief and pain
endured by children
who were just about
to venture into the world
unknowingly that their
dream will be forfeited by death

Words are insufficient to express
the misery or to respond for a mishap
that was unexpected and unprepared for

Nature has nothing to do
with this disaster but who are to blame
and what compensation
can serve to repay for such a loss

I can hardly breathe except
to feel the silence passing
through my mind or to imagine
what fate have befallen
on those who were making a
journey to embrace their beloved

Deep in my veins my blood
runs cold as though death was
standing before my own eyes
waiting to take my last breath
that time will defeat
my purpose and cause me
to surrender my faith

Those unfound bodies
will sit forever in the ocean underneath
never to reach the grave

When the island was about to measure
success with the dawn of tremendous
natural wealth for everyone to enjoy
that dream of potential minds
failed to come alive
under the brilliant sunlight
which the flowers and birds
alone are fortunate to enjoy

My words of inspiration
have turned into poison
that no one will digest
but choose to remain in thirst
for this unpredicted mistake
more dangerous that the
damage left after a storm
even the light of my soul
have become dim
and my hands refuse
to write what is the truth.
