I Cannot Have Poem by Sam Byron

I Cannot Have

Everyone claims
They’re proud of me
For taking everything
In stride.

It seems

That I’m okay,
That I’ve moved on.

But,
They don’t see
What lies beneath
My smile

The truth is
I’m quietly breaken
Trying to take it
One day at a time.

I know it’s over.
Desperately taking
One breath at a time

Although
I’ll never show
The toll it’s taking,

I’m dying inside
That you can’t be mine.
