I Dare You Poem by Jade Leven

I Dare You

Note: This is dedicated to I.B.

I dare you to read this
I dare you to realize that it's about you
well here's the secret:

I dare you to read the next line...

I loved you for a very long time.

I dare you to tell me that I'm being ridiculous
I know you probably don't believe it,
but I did love you

we were sitting there, talking about us
and you told me not to hold back anything else I was feeling
and you asked me if there was anything else
I said no.

I lied.

But I tried to say it so unconvincingly
that possibly
hopefully
you would catch me

but you didn't catch me.

You said okay.

So now you'll never know, and I will never say the words I almost said.

I was in love with you.

I think you knew there was something else, but maybe you didn't want to know
that I loved you

and unless you're reading this now

you never will.
