I Do Not Write For Fortune Or For Fame Poem by Francis Duggan

I Do Not Write For Fortune Or For Fame

I do not write for fortune or for fame
Or that mine may become quite a well known name
I only write because writing I enjoy
I have loved rhyme verse ever since I was a boy
And though rhyme verse by many is now seen as out of date
The old rhyme poets and poetesses were great
They were the laureates of the gift of rhyme
And their poems have survived the centuries of time
The masterful rhyme wordsmiths with words had a way
And their poems by many remain popular today
The stuff I pen others may not recite
But 'tis not for fame or fortune I do write
'Tis for love of it that I pen reams of stuff
As some do tell me far more than enough
Not all can be great and when all is said and done
Only one can ever be the number one.
