I Fly No Flag Poem by Raymond Farrell

I Fly No Flag

I fly no flag
I own no allegiance
To any country
So when a man
Pens a document
Stating 'all men are created equal'
(A completely false statement)
It serves merely as a diversion
Which we can treat as we choose
But exempts him
And his fellow slave owners
From freeing one of their slaves
Now, if the document in question
Had mandated
All men be treated equally
Something meaningful
Might have transpired
But even that is only hypothetical
Given the machinations
Humanity is capable of.
