I Forgot Today Poem by Mira Begum

I Forgot Today

Every sunrise
Places a quite Miracle
Into my hands.

Yet I spend my hours
Counting the footsteps
Of a tomorrow
That has learned my name.

I save my smiles
For a future that keeps moving
While today wait for me_
Silent,
Patient,
Unclaimed.

How many sunsets
I have watched without seeing?
How many moments
Have slipped away
While I was busy
Fearing what had not happened?

If life has taught me anything,
It is this.

Tomorrow is only a promise,
But today is the only truth
I am certain to hold.

So before another dawn
Becomes another memory,
I choose to live
The day that chose me first.
