I Have Always Been Right Here Poem by James Darwin Smith II

I Have Always Been Right Here

Slowly, Thawing
Out from the cold
Tiny little fissures
Remaining memories
Of what still remains
Unresolved

Shadows of trees
Trace the freezing ground
As if it was nature's canvas
Where the sun projects change
Of a future uncertain
But perhaps better
Than it was ever before

The warmth is not still here
Maybe the air is subliminal
Saying change is almost here
Forming into dreams
Where everything in this life
Wishes it could travel on
Never being stuck in one place
Ascending into a new adventure
Unlimited to any destination
As I look down upon the ashes
Of my own personal disdain

My personal haven
Is where this imagination
Takes me away
Into the furthest reaches
Where the soul rests
Knowing this flesh
Is never the focal point
Of redundant words
Always sounding the same

To feel loved
In the truest state of self
Reigns freedom like no other
Giving this heart wings
To fly in the trust of knowing
Everything will all flow
Into the warmth
Of a shining hope
Creating many
Meaningful sacred days

Vanity, nowhere in sight
Just organic feelings released
In a snug bond
Stronger than ever felt from before

Yes, I tend to live in make believe
It is only for my own protection
From reality's razor sharp sting

As it always
Turned sadness into joy
Of being something more
Than I have ever been before

Never wake me up
I know I am wrong
It is just
That I have never felt lost here

The sun always shines the brightest
When I close these eyes
Creating a prism
Of many different colors
Beautiful everlasting
Beams of light

Trying to kill
These internal battle scars
As I attempt to win the war
Of my own warn out welcoming despair

Struggling with reality
Searching for some kind of balance
In knowing this fantasy world
Is always there for me

What is life without turmoil?

Someday, everything will all make sense

As love, peace and success
Shall cover me with comfort
Making the cold become
A lesson learned
Upon this modest self
Trying to become so much more
Relevant

Who am I now?

Never look up or down

Look across

I have always been right here
