I Know These Thoughts Poem by Mohammad Younus

I know these thoughts
that come to visit me—
all of them are my own,
yet not all are mine to claim.
I must begin thinking divinely,
shift my mind to break free
from illusion's tight grasp.

I know illusions want me
to lean into negativity,
but it's all I can do
to free myself from their clutches now.
This fear of illusion's dread
is not merely fabricated—
I am not just crazy.

They say,
"It's all in your head, "
but this is real—
none should dare challenge it.
It is not that you must
discard your brain
to be free from illusion,
but behind your brain, you are.

Release false thinking,
and your mind will guide your soul
to remember
what is worth remembering,
and to forget
what no longer serves you.

You are simply choosing your life—
Shall I pick Enlightenment,
or shall I embrace illusion's lure?
Listen to the verse:
'Verily, it is We who have created
man from a drop of sperm,
intermingled,
so that We might test him
[throughout his life].
And therefore, We made him a being
endowed with hearing and sight.
Verily, We have shown him the way:
[and it rests with him to prove himself]
either grateful or ungrateful.'
